We’re into the last week of August, which means Fall is right around the corner (whaaaaaat?!). But, we’re not letting go of Summer yet! Heads up, there’s still TONS of local events to look forward to before Summer’s gone for good.
Maan Farms Sunflower Festival
If you’ve been waiting for your chance to check this one out, here it is! The Sunflower Festival closes September 1, so there’s still time! A little sunshine, a little fresh air, and a whole lot of great sunflower photo ops. Oh, and make sure you do some wine tasting while you’re at the farm!
Free Yoga in the Park
Every Thursday this July and August, Kismet Yoga & Fitness has been hosting a free hour long yoga class in the park. Lucky for us, there’s still one Thursday left to catch the class. The flow-style session starts at 7pm, at Mill Lake (meet on the east side of the lake, off of Ware Street.) All you need is a yoga mat, a water bottle, and a good attitude. (We added that last one.)
They’re also accepting donations to the Food Bank, so get your butt to the park for some yoga and do your good deed for the day at the same time.
Valley Food and Farm Collective Market
This weekly event is killing it in their second year of local Farmers Market goodness. The market’s running through Autumn into November, but there’s just something about a market in the summer, amiright? VFF’s Thursday Market doesn’t just boast amazing local food: “In addition to featuring amazing local vendors, we’re proud to have created a unique free community space featuring: a kids area and activities, local music, workshops, demonstrations and special events.”
So what have you been waiting for? The market is open 4pm-8pm every Thursday; get there before the Summer’s gone!
There’s one more night for Prospera Credit Union’s Cinema Under The Stars. On Thursday, August 29th, you can catch Disney’s Moana at Watson Glen Park in Chilliwack. We’ll meet you there. The movie starts at dusk, but arrive at 5pm if you’re into fun family activities!
Mill Lake Music Concert Series
August 31st offers another last-chance opportunity to catch an awesome event that’s been rocking our town all Summer long. Western Jaguar, “a reverb-drenched indie rock band” is visiting from Mission to play the last Mill Lake Music Concert Series of the year. Music starts at 7pm at Kariton Art Gallery.
Do you like homemade artisan goods in beautiful historic settings? Yeah, us too. On September 7th, head over to the Fort Langley Community Hall for a free outdoor market featuring live music, activities, and plenty of stellar times. Arrive anytime between 10:00am and 3:30pm for all the wonderful things.
BC SPCA Paws for a Cause - Fraser Valley Walk
Animal lovers unite! Walk to support animals in need and end animal cruelty at this family friendly festival, September 8th, 11am-4pm, at Vedder River Park in Chilliwack.
They’ve got a beer garden. They’ve got BBQ. They’ve got family activities. But, we all know the real reason to check out this event: the doggos. Puppers just want to get a good walk, and few scritches, and support their local animal shelter.
But, you don’t need a four-legged friend to come to this event! Like their site says, “There’s plenty to do on-site with or without a pup and there’s no better dog-watching in town.”
MCC Festival for World Relief
This September 13th and 14th marks the FIFTIETH MCC Festival For World Relief. Always hosted on the last weekend of Summer, this event is practically an Abbotsford trademark. Live auction, live music, Mennonite food, and a whole lot of amazing goods for your perusal and charitable purchase. Hang out late on Friday for the live music, come back early on Saturday for the pancake breakfast, and you, my friend, have got yourself a perfect weekend! You’ll probably run into everyone you’ve ever known there. It’ll be great.
Aaaaaand that’s what we’ve got, guys! Did we miss any special events you’re excited for?
