Oh, heyyyy…we’re on the Christmas Countdown!
If you’re planning on hosting a gluten-free dinner this Christmas, we have some ideas for you. It’s way simpler than it may seem, and the only thing you really have to do is tweak your faves.
Here are five ideas for making your gluten-free Christmas dinner a great one.
Make Sure the Turkey is Clean
And by ‘clean’, we mean truly gluten-free. Sometimes we make the mistake of braising turkey in things that contain gluten, or forgetting that stuffing a bird with regular stuffing will not result in a safe, gluten-free situation.
(For what it’s worth, we’ve learned this one from experience. And it makes for a bummer of a holiday.)
Instead, keep it simple.
If you’re not stuffing your bird with a gluten-free stuffing, try stuffing it with butter, garlic, and fresh herbs, instead.
Perfect Your Gluten-Free Gravy
You can totally buy gluten-free gravy packets from your local grocery store, but if you want to try making one from scratch, here’s a great gluten-free gravy recipe to check out.
Create a Wholesome Stuffing
So, obviously you’ll be using gluten-free bread - we suggest pre-ordering baguettes from us; they make for some amaze stuffing - but then try beefing up your usual recipe by adding dried fruit, nuts (if there are no allergies present at your table), herbs, seeds and other yummy things that create a recipe that’s filled with flavour.
(And are oh-so good as leftovers).
Emphasize Great Sides
Here’s the thing: the turkey doesn’t have to run the show, guys. Great gluten-free sides are nutritious and delicious and exceptionally comfort-foodish.
Ideas include roasted brussel sprouts, French beans, acorn squash and more. For a full list of fun, gluten-free side ideas, take a look at these guys.
Reinvent the Desserts
Sure. You can buy or make a gluten-free pumpkin pie. But, you know what’s just as good or maybe even better?
Get creative. Make a fruit crumble with apples and pears and gluten-free oats. Or a homemade butterscotch pudding that’s topped with walnuts and pecans.
Or anything else you want!
Pie is not the end all, be all of Christmas dessert. The other desserts totally get jealous. Let another type of dessert shine!
Remember that we’ll be closed December 24th to the 26th, as well as December 31st to January 2nd. (If you need to pre-order anything, get it in by December 16th).
Happy gluten-free holidays, friends!
